First Jog: Running on Dexa-Fueled Determination

After the slap-in-the-face Dexa scan yesterday morning, I knew I needed to shake things up. Lucky for me, I work right next to a beautiful racetrack – perfect for a lap or two. So, instead of my usual lunch routine (aka stuffing my face), I laced up and hit the track.

One lap here is 2.5 km, which sounded totally doable… until I actually started running. Here are the highs (and mostly lows) from my first jog in way too long:

  • Distance: 2.5 km
  • Total Time: 20:19
  • Average Pace: 8’07” per km
  • Calories Burned: 253 kcal
  • Average Heart Rate: 136 bpm

The first few meters were a bit of a wake-up call. My right toe started whining, and my left knee chimed in with its own complaints. Not exactly the “runner’s high” I was hoping for! But after pushing through, the aches started to ease up, and I got into something resembling a rhythm. Was it pretty? Not a chance. But I made it to the end.

Today, I’m feeling the consequences – sore muscles from head to toe. And considering I do spend a decent amount of time on the bike, it’s a bit humbling. Turns out, biking doesn’t quite prep you for the pavement pounding. But that soreness? I’m taking it as a badge of honor. My body got the memo: change is coming.

It wasn’t fast, it wasn’t graceful, but it was a start. I’ll be back out there, working to shave off some time and maybe survive without the toe-and-knee duet. Let’s see if this racetrack becomes my new best friend… or just my next nemesis. Stay tuned.
